Superintendent Melton R. Timmons is a graduate of Gladewater High School,
Kilgore Jr. College and University of Texas at Tyler. He was a teacher and coach
in Big Sandy, Union Hill, and Gilmer School Districts. At the Upshur County
Community School, he served as the Community/Social Services Counselor. He
was also an insurance representative for United Insurance and Horace Mann
Insurance before working as an account executive for Community Broadcast
Group.


He accepted his call to Ministry in 1979 at his home church, Rising Star Church
of God in Christ, Gladewater, Texas under the leadership of Superintendent C.H.
McNeece and was licensed to preach in 1981. In 1982, he was ordained as an
Elder and appointed pastor of the Rocky Mound Church of God in Christ, Rocky
Mound, Texas by Bishop J. Neaul Haynes and in 1985, Elder Timmons was
appointed as pastor of the Hayter Chapel Church of God in Christ, Longview,
Texas.


In 1990, he was elevated to the position of Superintendent of the Pittsburg
District and Jurisdictional Executive Secretary, Texas Northeast Second
Jurisdiction by Bishop David R. Houston. He presently, serves as the proud
Pastor of the Jones Valley Community Church of God in Christ, Tyler, Texas,
Superintendent of the David R. Houston District and First Administrative
Assistant, Texas Northeast Second Jurisdiction.


He was elected to the National Board of Trustees in 2012, elected secretary to
the board in 2013, re-elected to both positions in 2016. After being re-elected for
a third term in 2021, he was also elected as First Vice Chairman to the National
Board of Trustees. He is also the Superintendent of National Properties for the
Church of God in Christ worldwide, and a member of the Executive Board of the
General Council of Pastors and Elders, Church of God in Christ, Inc.


Timmons is a partner with Dearion/Davis Funeral Parlor, Gladewater, Texas,
serving as Director of Public Relations; CEO and Publisher of the Ebony News
Journal and founder/CEO of Better Days Marketing. He served on the Board of
Directors for Tyler Metro Chamber of Commerce, Primary Purpose, Inc., G &T
Young at Heart, Inc., Red Rock Memorial Cemetery and is a Precinct Chair,
Smith County Democratic Party.


Superintendent Melton R. Timmons is married to LaQueta Freeman Timmons
and they share their lives with their children; Marquel, Marcell, Marquez, Chasity,
Marketta and sixteen grandchildren.
