Jones Valley Church was founded in 1913 when believers began holding cottage meetings across the community. By 1917, Elder Fred Daniels led the construction of the first church building, and in 1918 the congregation affiliated with the Church of God in Christ, becoming Jones Valley COGIC. Over the years, many dedicated pastors and leaders helped the church grow in faith and service.
In 1982, Elder David R. Houston continued the vision by leading the construction of the present sanctuary. The church was renamed Jones Valley Community Church of God in Christ in 1986. Bishop Houston served faithfully until 2004, when Supt. Melton R. Timmons was appointed pastor.
Under Pastor Timmons’ leadership, the church has expanded outreach through television and radio ministries, transportation services, hospital and college ministries, and programs for youth, singles, and couples. Facility improvements have included a remodeled pulpit, paved parking lot, and advanced media technology to enhance worship.
Bishop Timmons and First Lady LaQueta Timmons also serve in national leadership roles within the Church of God in Christ. Bishop Timmons currently serves as Auxiliary Bishop in Church of God in Christ, Inc. and as Chairman of the National Board of Trustees. First Lady LaQueta Timmons serves as the Chairperson of the Clergy Wives and Coordinator of the Administrative Assistants' Wives Circle, International Department of Women, Church of God in Christ, Inc.
In 2018, the church launched Free Lunch in the Valley to serve children during the summer and You Need IT (Information Tuesdays) to provide vital resources on health, education, finances, and community life.
Today, Jones Valley Community COGIC continues to grow, serve, and proclaim: “The Lord is blessing us right now, and it does not yet appear what we shall be!”
